CUSTOM ESSAY WRITERS are the Best April 22, 2017

What is an argumentative essay?

An argumentative essay is an essay where you need to pick a particular side and then argue the case for it. Starting it the right way is therefore very important, so that people reading it get the right tone. An argumentative essay needs to start off strong, and keep the people reading it on the same road they are on right from the start; it allows them to control the arguments which are being made much more effectively. To this end, any argumentative essay needs to be absolutely clear on the stance it is taking, and the arguments which are going to be used.

To start this type of essay, be absolutely sure you understand both the question, and your stance on the matter. Sometimes your stance is pre-determined, either by the way the question is phrased, or by the teacher who has given the assignment. Other times, you can decide for yourself which side of the argument you are on, and therefore which side you are going to argue. Either way, for this type of essay to work, you need to be absolutely sure about what you want to say, because otherwise you will have a weak essay.

When you are clear on what your stance is going to be, then you can move onto doing your research. The argumentative essay is normally one which has already had a lot of research done on it, which does make this stage somewhat easier. People should take care when doing research, however, as it can sometimes cause them to be tangled up in arguments which, while interesting, they would never have the space for in their essays. Your research should be based around finding the arguments that you are going to use in the essay, and then focusing on them.

Once you have done your research, or at least the preliminary stages of it, you will be in a position to choose the arguments that you are going to make. Remember that each body paragraph you write will need one single argument for itself, so you will need one argument for every single body paragraph which will be in your essay. You will also need a thesis statement, which is a one or two sentence long piece of writing which sums up your entire argument. When choosing your arguments, make sure that they are strong enough to withstand scrutiny.
